Download of the day
Cool! jUploadr is the download of the day over at Life Hacker.
I knew there was a reason I had 800 downloads today.

Hiya, congrats and thanx for jUploadr! I found out about it through Lifehacker, and I must say I like the bird you’ve got — nice choice for a very slick logo. I wanted to ask you directly, is there a way to hide the command-line window that comes up? I was confused upon initial usage, and I find it quite distracting.
I’m uncomfortable with that aspect of the program, but I hope to use it more to gain a better understanding. Cheerz.

Torley:
As of right now, I’m not aware of any way in Windows to run a batch file without having a command line window pop up.
I’m not windows expert though, and maybe some people out there could provide more information.

Couple feature suggestions, if you don’t mind:
- Support for multiple accounts (some of us have both Zooomr and Flickr, or multiple accounts at one or the other)
- Uploaded progress for the current image, and for the batch
- Uploaded ETA (time remaining)
- Like Torley said, eventually figure out a way to get rid of the batch file
Very nice work! Congrats, and keep it up!

Woops, allow me to clarify:
- Support for *uploading to* multiple accounts
September 24th, 2006 at 5:02 pm
Scott,
jUploadr supports multiple accounts, just select edit ->accounts and create a new account.
You can switch them at any time and your uploads are re-set so all you have to do to upload to the new site is press the button. Your tags/description and all other metadata is preserved so you don’t have to enter it again.
Progress for the current image is located in the bottom left of the UI. Each photo is marked with an arrow telling you which photo is being uploaded. It’s pretty clear.
As for the upload counter, add it as a feature request

Greate little app! I would like to translate it into Polish. If you are interested let me know what should I do.

stroke,
I’ll be in touch with you in a bit.

Hi
I just downloaded the Linux version to run with Ubuntu but for some reason every time I try to upload photos it asks me to authenticate jUploadr with Flickr. If I open and close the application 3 times, it asks me to authenticate 3 times.
Plus, the bat file you have there seems to be geared towards Windows only. Maybe thats the problem?
September 28th, 2006 at 6:32 pm
There’s a script file called ‘jUploadr’ use that.

On Windows, jUploadr appears to launch Firefox to view my Flickr account when I click the button on the lower right of the window. I would like to get it to open the page in K-Meleon instead since I have that running all the time. Where does jUploadr get the web browser path from?
September 29th, 2006 at 1:13 pm
Flickr user for quite a time now, i really dig your app. If your interrested in a translation into french i would be glad to provide my support for a message_fr.properties.
:)
Good work !

As for the console window in MS Windows: I use Hidden Start (http://www.ntwind.com/software/utilities/hstart.html) to prevent this from showing up. I keep a copy of hstart in my juploadr folder and a link in my start menu with “C:\Programme\jUploadr\hstart.exe /NOWINDOW juploadr.bat” as target. This works nicely as long as I remember to shut down jUploadr via the File menu. If I’m closing it via the X-button the Java process remains active in the background und has to be killed with Task Manager.
As for feature requests: it would be perfect if jUploadr could utilise IPTC data from a JPEG file. Anyway, thanks ever so much for jUploadr as I wouldn’t be using Zooomr without it.

rstline:
jUploadr uses a third party library to launch a web browser. I’m not 100% sure how it gets its path or what it tries to open, but I’m pretty sure it won’t open k-meleon. You can ask for this at here

Hi again
Just to make sure am I doing things the right way, am I suppose to authenticate myself against Flickr everytime I try to upload images? Because I have to do that every time I start Flickr. Once again, I’m running it on Ubuntu Edgy Eft.
September 30th, 2006 at 11:09 am
Rui,
You should only have to authenticate the first time you upload to flickr. After a successful auth, you should never have to do this again.
Also, running the .bat file in linux will not work. You need to run the jUploadr file (which is a shell script)
I’ll email you to give you further instructions.

Hi
I’ve problems adding my account in the first place. I use a ubuntu linux. For authentication jUploadr always opens mozilla (instead of firefox), which doesn’t have installed personal security manager and therefore doesn’t allow to authenticate through yahoo.
how can i “tell” juploadr to use firefox?
October 9th, 2006 at 3:33 pm
Where is firefox installed? If it’s in your path, jUploadr should use it. If it’s not, put it in your path and everything will be solved automatically.
October 10th, 2006 at 4:30 am
Thanks scohen for the hint. “firfox” is actually in PATH, and it still didn’t work. but by doing the opposite (removing mozilla from PATH) it now used opera and it just worked fine.
October 10th, 2006 at 10:10 am
it’s looking for an executable named “firefox”.
Changing the spelling should make things open in firefox.

I can’t figure out if this is a Zooomr error or a jUploadr error — the message points at jUploadr as being at fault, but I can authenticate with flickr fine. When I try to authenticate my account, things proceed until I push the “OK, let’s auth this thing” button and then I get this error:
Uh-oh! The “frob” this application is trying to use is invalid or void
A 3rd-party application has requested your permission to perform certain actions on your behalf, but has failed to include all required information to complete the transaction.
Don’t worry about what this means, other than that you can’t use this this application until this problem is fixed on their end.

Steve,
First off, nice name.
Secondly, despite the snarky little error message, the error is certainly on zooomr’s end. I’ve duplicated the problem locally, and will be in contact with them.
October 12th, 2006 at 3:02 pm
Steve,
Kris fixed the problem. It should work fine now.
October 12th, 2006 at 6:19 pm
Thanks! It does work now. –s

Hi,
this moring i tried to start your great jUploadr but just a second after the command-window opens it is closed. But I ve taken a screenshot with the command window on it.
It’s output is: the command “REG” is wrong used and following this the “goto” is wrong, too.
Hope you can fix it. (I think this is caused by windows!)
October 15th, 2006 at 12:36 am
Very cool tool, thank you!
October 15th, 2006 at 6:38 am
REG.EXE is included in Windows XP by default. If you use Win2000, you must get it by yourself.

BTW, I make a win32 installer for jUploadr, you can download it from here if you like.

Killercup,
What version of windows are you running?
October 17th, 2006 at 4:27 pm
So, specifically, can you use jUploader to edit EXIF metadata before uploading photos to Flickr? I got the impression that you could from your description (”edit all attributes”), so I downloaded your program. Now that I have, I don’t see the difference in function between your offering and Flickr’s. Maybe I’m missing something?
October 17th, 2006 at 11:23 pm
Donald,
No, you cannot edit EXIF metadata with jUploadr. I was speaking of all Flickr’s metadata.
